Indigenous Celebration Week (ICW)
Indigenous Celebration Week is an annual celebration of Indigenous culture, teachings and languages that aims to share knowledge and create positive energy for the Indigenous community on campus and its allies. The Week features events which are led by Indigenous elders and other community members as a way to honor traditional elements within a contemporary setting.
The Nitohtamowin Program
The Nitohtamowin Program (formerly known as the Indigenous Leadership Program) is for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students seeking to strengthen leadership processes in alignment with Indigenous world views. Through workshops, speaker events, exercises, and panels, the program is approached from an ethic of kinship to discuss topics of leadership, such as self-understanding, conflict management, and community empowerment.
Nitohtamowin translates to the act of listening in the Plains Cree Language. Indigenous undergraduate students at the University of Alberta are encouraged to attend presentations by Indigenous community leaders, knowledge keepers and students. To further their understanding on the meaning of Leadership in Indigenous communities. This program is available in Fall and Winter Terms.
UASU Indigenous Awards
The UASU Indigenous Student Award will give preference to Indigenous students (First Nations, Métis, and/or Inuit) who have dependants. However, all undergraduate Indigenous students are encouraged to apply.

First Peoples’ House (FPH)
Standing true to our beliefs as First Peoples and guided by cultural teachings, the First Peoples' House provides an environment of empowerment for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) students at the University of Alberta to achieve personal and academic growth.
Their vision is to demonstrate our commitment to the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit student community on campus and provide services that reflect this responsibility. We will continue to honor the Indigenous worldview of education as a continuous ceremony of learning by respecting and supporting the voices and spirit of our student community at the University of Alberta.
Faculty of Native Studies
Native Studies is a student-centered, research-oriented, autonomous faculty. Educating Indigenous and non-Indigenous students through community engagement, teaching and research focused on the complexity of Indigenous issues and thought.

The Indigenous Initiatives Portfolio works collaboratively with stakeholders inside the University and within the broader community to ensure that Indigenous initiatives support the strategic direction of the University and enhance relationships and opportunities for collaboration
