SU Event Packages

Please note that events hosted by student groups must be submitted for risk management review to the Dean of Students' Office through BearsDen. Only events that support social distancing and can be hosted remotely will be approved at this time. Please submit events through your student group's BearsDen page.

The Students Union owns multiple event venues and spaces that are accessible and affordable for student group events. From pub nights, to speaker series, to late night dance parties; our venues can meet a wide range of needs for events on campus while offering affordable rates and incentives student groups.

A student group can book either a public or private event in a Students' Union venue. All events in our venues cover student groups with general liability insurance. GST is not included in any listed prices. Note: events still have to be submitted to the Dean of Students' Office for event approval. More information on the DoS website.


Public Events

If you are looking for a space to host a community event for free, and are a registered student group, then you have the opportunity to host public events during our regular operating hours.

A public event is held by your group during regular operating hours, is open and inclusive to the UAlberta community and is free of cost for registered student groups. Specifically, a public event:

  • Cannot be ticketed and cannot charge admission
  • Must not significantly disrupt regular operations
  • Is not a table reservation for your group, or an exclusive party or event for your group
  • Is free, but with limited event options

Private Events

Registered student groups have the opportunity to host private events in a number of our venues.

A private event:

  • Can be ticketed or charge admission
  • Can have custom programming or events (within the venue’s limitations)
  • Provides exclusive access to the space for your group and guests
  • Involves payment, with custom event options

The packages below are an example of some standard bookings our venue offers for student groups. If you have a more complex vision for your event, please reach out to us for more information.

Dewey’s Party, Single Room: $195

Capacity: 85 attendees; available Monday-Sunday, September to April.

Includes:

  • 4 hour private rental of the back or front room of Dewey’s (extra time is available for $45/hour)
  • Bar and kitchen open for purchase; catering packages also available
  • Free A/V equipment use and pool table use
  • Free ticket printing
  • Custom feature drink for your event
  • Booking fee rebate of 10% of food and drink sales

Requires:

  • Registered SU student group status
  • $500 deposit and signed contract
  • Minimum 2 weeks notice to book

Dewey’s Party, Full Venue: $390

Capacity: 170 attendees; available Monday-Sunday, September to April.

Includes:

  • 4 hour private rental of Dewey’s (extra time is available for $90/hour)
  • Bar and kitchen open for purchase; catering packages also available
  • Free A/V equipment use and pool table use
  • Free ticket printing
  • Custom feature drink for your event
  • Booking fee rebate of 10% of food and drink sales

Requires:

  • Registered SU student group status
  • $500 deposit and signed contract
  • Minimum 2 weeks notice to book

Room at the Top Party: $295

Capacity: 140 attendees; available select Saturdays and Sundays, September to April, with extended availability in May-August.

Includes:

  • 4 hour private rental of Room at the Top (extra time is available for $70/hour)
  • Bar and kitchen open for purchase; catering packages also available
  • Free A/V equipment use
  • Free ticket printing
  • Custom feature drink for your event
  • Booking fee rebate of 10% of food and drink sales

Requires:

  • Registered SU student group status
  • $500 deposit and signed contract
  • Minimum 2 weeks notice to book

Dinwoodie Dance Package: $1000

Capacity of 550, available year round.

Includes:

  • Full access to the venue for setup
  • Free printing of posters
  • Free ticket creation and printing
  • All required bar and security staff
  • Standard party setup including use of in-house sound and lighting equipment

Requirements:

  • Registered SU student group status
  • Deposit of $1050 and signed contract
  • More than four weeks notice to book

Student group rebate: if your event's total attendance is above 225 guests by 10:30 PM, your $1000 deposit returned in full. If attendance is between 125 and 225 guests by that time, $500 of your deposit is returned. If your attendance is less than 125 by that time, the deposit will not be returned.
