Week of Welcome is the biggest volunteer group on campus, and has positions for people with all kinds of strengths and interests. As a WOW volunteer, you will be involved in running New Student Orientation, and Week of Welcome.
Position Descriptions WOW 2023
Tours and Activities Volunteers (TAV)
Approximate time commitment = 60 hours (April - September)
Tours and Activities Volunteers or TAVs serve as the first point of contact for new students on campus! Tours and Activities Volunteers ensure both new and returning students transition smoothly into university life. Responsibilities of Tours and Activities Volunteers include, but are not limited too:
- New Student Orientation: welcome new students to the university by facilitating campus tours, acting as support for various presentations, participating in online panels, and answering questions, both University-wide and Faculty specific, through a variety of means.
- Welcome Events: Tours and Activities Facilitators will typically be assigned a minimum of 3 Week of Welcome shifts such as - Set-up and take down of WOW Village, Pancake Breakfast, Quad Activities, and Ticket Sales for our evening programming during WOW.
Information and Presentations Facilitator (IPF)
Approximate time commitment = 60 hours (April - September)
Information And Presentations Facilitators or IPFs will sharpen their public speaking, presentation and facilitation skills by facilitating content and hosting informative, engaging, and exciting sessions about student life.
Topics include:
- Involvement
- Health and Wellness
- Transitioning to University
- Healthy relationships
If you excel at speaking in front of large crowds, or are looking to develop these skills, and are passionate about helping students achieve success in their personal and academic lives, this position offers an excellent opportunity for personal and professional growth and development.
Site and Admin Volunteers (SAV)
Approximate time commitment = 60 hours (April - September)
Site and Admin Volunteers or SAVs provide logistical support throughout the Week of Welcome program. Back-end logistics and implementation are the focus for this group and typical involvement can include, but are not limited to:
- New Student Orientation: registration processes and help desk
- Technical support for online presentations and interaction processes (ie. Q&A panel)
- Site specific tasks: efficiently carrying out the setup, maintenance, and takedown of WOW Village, MainStage, and Clubs Fair.
