Olivia is currently in her first year of a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and is running for re-election as KSR Councillor on both Students’ Council and General Faculties Council (GFC). She has been passionate about student governance since high school when she got involved in her student council and graduation committee. Olivia has done her best to exceed expectations in these positions, as she wanted everyone to have the best possible student experience.

This past year, Olivia has learned much about student governance at the University of Alberta, having sat on the Sustainability Committee, Nominations Committee, and Audit Committee of Students’ Council. She has developed an understanding of the performance-based funding model that will be directly affecting all students and wants to use the information she has acquired this year to advocate for students’ voices on GFC, which can be dominated by faculty opinions.

Additionally, Olivia hopes to continue her work with the sustainability committee in order to hold the Students’ Union accountable in developing their environmental, social and economic sustainability projects. She also wants to provide a consistent presence on the audit committee, allowing it to function smoothly every year and hold student associations and Executives financially accountable. Finally, Olivia wishes to provide stable representation for the faculty of Kinesiology, Sports and Recreation, which it has lacked in past years, where she can use her institutional memory to work towards bigger projects and continue to learn how to best represent her faculty.

Hi everyone!

My name is Abner Monteiro and I’m running to be your next GFC and SU councillor for the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR). Over the past 3 years I have had the pleasure of serving as VP Academic and President of your Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Student Society (KSRSS) and have worked tirelessly with faculty and students to create enriched learning and social environments for students.

In KSR I have seen face-to-face the countless challenges students confront daily, with no advocate for change. KSR is a unique faculty with unique needs which must be met in order to foster a thriving learning environment for its students.

I have consistently worked for progressive change within the KSR faculty, and although I have been part of meaningful change, I’m driven to accomplish much more. The issues students face must be taken to the highest level of governance, and that is what I will address as a KSR representative.

My passion for student governance stems from my willingness to serve the public good and to create an academic atmosphere that get students excited to attend the University of Alberta.

I will bring in bold and innovative ideas to these councils; through consultation, collaboration, and collegial governance I will advocate for honest and meaningful change benefitting KSR and the UofA community.

I hope you stand with me as we tackle the many challenges ahead and I look forward to being your next GFC and SU councillor for KSR.
