Orientation 2012: Welcoming all incoming undergraduate students to campus
Volunteer Applications
Volunteer applications for Orientation 2012 will be open on February 13th, 2012. Listed below are the positions available for volunteer applicants. Applications will be due at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2nd, 2012.
High School Orientation Leader
High School Orientation Leaders make up the bulk of Orientation's volunteers. They work directly with a group of new university students to help ease their transition into University by guiding tours, leading activities, and answering questions. Orientation Leaders work in teams of 2 or 3 to guide a group of around 20 students throughout the 2 days of Orientation. Individual Interviews for these positions will take place from March 5th to 16th, and Group Interviews will run from March 5th to 10th.
UAX Orientation Leader
UAX, or U of A Exclusive, is the one day Orientation program for Mature or Transfer Students coming to the University of Alberta. Diverse in age and experience with post-secondary education, this group of students are assisted by the UAX Orientation Leaders. These volunteers will work in pairs or sets of three to help these students integrate into campus life through guided tours, activities, and by answering questions with two different groups of students on the 2 days of Orientation. Individual Interviews for these positions will take place from March 5th to 16th, and Group Interviews will run from March 5th to 10th.
Orientation Programs Assistant
Orientation Program Assistants, or OPAs, make up the integral support system of Orientation. These volunteers perform the behind-the-scenes tasks that make Orientation run; doing attendance, sorting ballots, handling registration, and setting up decorations. This group of ~25 volunteers will work as a team to make sure Orientation runs as smoothly as possible. Individual Interviews for these positions will take place from March 5th to 16th, and Group Interviews will run from March 5th to 10th.
Orientation Presentation Facilitator
Orientation Presentation Facilitators, or OPFs, are the creative glue of Orientation. These volunteers will write, edit, record, and perform the 10 different Orientation Presentations seen by new students over the course of Orientation. These dedicated volunteers will work in teams of 4 or 5 to create presentations the likes of which no one has ever seen, in order to educate and entertain the new students. Individual Interviews for these positions will take place from March 5th to 16th, and Group Auditions will take place from March 12th to 16th.
Orientation Photography Technician
These volunteers will capture all the spirit and excitement of Orientation 2012. They will work with a small team of other photographers to capture the moments of Orientation Volunteer Training and Orientation 2012, ensuring that these memorable times won't go undocumented! ndividual Interviews for these positions will take place from March 5th to 16th, and Group Interviews will run from March 5th to 10th.
