Strategic Planning helps to define direction and priorities, and should be a fundamental activity of any organization. The Students’ Union’s first Strategic Plan was created in 1992, and was updated in 2001, and again in 2011.
Bylaw 4000, passed by Students’ Council in March 2011, requires the SU to "develop, maintain, and use" a Strategic Plan, which will be renewed every four years. This is a reflection of how much the SU has grown, the increasing sophistication of its programs, and the changing environment - particularly in the area of technology - in which it operates.
In the fall of 2014 the Students' Union executives and staff, working with students’ councilors, and students-at-large, began the process of reviewing the 2011 Strategic Plan. The new Strategic Plan was approved on March 31, 2015, and is available here.
The first section of the document includes the Students’ Union’s Mission, Values and Vision, or "What we do, Why we do it and How we do it. The second section includes four Critical Success Factors, each of which has a number of goals that must be achieved in order for the organization to succeed in meeting its mission and vision.
