Health and Dental Plan

Health and Dental Plan

Why a Health & Dental Plan?

To help students pay for the health services they need, a collective health and dental plan has been put in place by your student union. The coverage includes health, dental, vision, and travel benefits. It also includes tuition insurance, a benefit not likely covered by a parent's plan. The plan covers the unexpected and provides you with preventive care services to keep you in good health. As a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is taking a minimum of 3 credits in the Fall Term and who pays SU fees, you're automatically covered by the SU Health & Dental Plan.

Opt-Out and Change-of-Coverage Information

The health and dental plan allows you to opt out, to change your coverage level, or enrol an eligible family member (see below). If you wish to opt out or make any other changes to your coverage, you must do so during the Change-of-Coverage Period. Dates for this year's deadline are available at Opt outs will not be processed before or after the Change-of-Coverage Period. Opt outs are in effect for the whole policy year (from September 1, 2014 – August 31, 2015), and must be renewed annually if you do not want coverage.

You can also visit the health and dental plan office on the sixth floor of SUB to opt out or change your coverage.

For Winter Term Students

Students who begin their studies in January will not be automatically enrolled, but they have the option to enrol themselves and their families for coverage from January 1 – August 31, 2015. Please visit for details of The Winter Term Change-of-Coverage Period.

Family Enrolments

The SU Health & Dental Plan also gives you the option to enrol your family (spouse and/or dependants) by completing an enrolment process and paying an additional fee, over and above your fee as a member of the SU. Common law and same-sex couples are eligible. All enrolments must be completed during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage Period.
