Council of Faculty Associations

What are Faculty Associations?

Faculty Associations represent all their faculty's students. FA executives are elected by the students in their faculty each year. In addition to services and coordinating social events, FA executives also represent the students in their faculty on a number of academic committees. Each Faculty Association is unique in its innate understanding of the issues and concerns that affect the students in that faculty. FAs are an important part of the campus community, both socially and politically. When taken together, they represent the concerns and perspectives of each individual student faculty at the University, a feat that the Students’ Union alone cannot parallel.

What is the Council of Faculty Associations?

The Council of Faculty Associations is a consultative body that includes executive members from every faculty association. CoFA is used as a discussion forum where faculty associations and the SU can get caught up on each other's activities. However, faculty associations represent a great opportunity for academic advocacy at the faculty level (where many important decisions are made). In addition to their political activities, many faculty associations also put on some awesome events. Hopefully, COFA will be able to promote more advocacy and more opportunities to get involved and have some fun at the faculty level this year.

COFA exists to ensure that all faculty associations are knowledgeable about prevailing issues, and offer an opportunity to collaborate efforts. There are common issues that affect students in all faculties and COFA is the ideal forum for FAs to come together and discuss these concerns. After its beginning-of-year retreat, COFA meets regularly to discuss relevant issues and coordinate cross-faculty interaction.

The Council of Faculty Associations can access the COFA wiki here.
