Campus Cup is the annual, university-wide dodgeball tournament put on and run by the Students’ Union. It involves 100 coed teams that are pit against each other over one weekend as they each strive to win the elusive Campus Cup; an impressive trophy that towers over 4 feet tall. Although there is a physical trophy awarded to the playoff champions, the tournament itself is founded in the intentions of fun, fair play, sportsmanship, and campus community. Teams can be submitted by anyone from the University of Alberta including student, staff, or alumni. The rules are simple and every single person can become a hero as they dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge their way past a wave of their opponents’ volleys. Every player can’t help but walk off the court with a smile on their face.
Campus Cup began as a collaboration between the Students’ Union, the Lister Dodgeball League, the Residence Halls Association, the Office of the Dean of Students, the Alumni Association, and Campus Recreation as a tournament to expose dodgeball to the greater University to create hype for the first Break the Record attempt. It has since turned into an annual event that is open to everyone connected to the UofA.
