FSSL 2023, October

FSSL 2023 is a one-day, nationwide leadership conference being held on October 21, 2023. It is open to both high school and post-secondary students -- from anywhere! This conference endeavours to serve as an accessible leadership development opportunity that aims to cultivate skills, foster a sense of community, and ignite action, all while incorporating sustainable concepts.

We focus our leadership practices at individual, group, and community levels through seeking an understanding of our purpose as leaders.This involves forming a mindful response to the onrush of complex leadership challenges we encounter in our everyday social contexts, news feeds, and personal experiences. Responding requires thoughtfully addressing underlying leadership challenges to inform meaningful approaches to being leaders.

The FSSL 2023 theme is From Deliberation to Action which is mainly to motivate and equip students to act as change agents. By bringing together influential leaders, experts, and visionaries, the Foundations Summit for Sustainability & Leadership wishes to create a platform to deliberate on pressing issues, exchange ideas, and ultimately drive real-world solutions.

For 2023, sessions will cover topics in two streams:

Sustainability: Sustainability is more than just the environment! This stream will focus on the four pillars of sustainability (social, human, economic, and environmental) to ensure that we are uplifting all areas of our world in a sustainable way.

Leadership Fundamentals: What does it mean to be a leader? In this stream, we will focus on developing skills and attitudes towards leadership that empower students to practise leadership in their own communities. Leadership is a collection of skills that can be taught, practised, and implemented in every day life.

FSSL Certificates

By attending the Summit, students will have opportunities to earn digital certificates to include on their resumes, CVs and LinkedIn!

Who is FSSL for?

FSSL is created for high school and post secondary students who are at varying points in their leadership journey. Whether you are just starting out or are already making moves, you’ll find something at FSSL for you. We also welcome community members, education staff, and others who are interested in learning more about leadership!

Where does FSSL take place?

FSSL will be held as one in-person conference day at the University of Alberta Students' Union Building in Edmonton, Alberta. While on campus, it is our earnest aspiration that each and every participant may derive pleasure from the conference proceedings as well as the delightful panorama of the university.

When does FSSL take place?

FSSL will take place on 21, October 2023, from 9am to 5pm.
