Types of Funding
Types of Repayable Assistance
- The only assistance from the Yukon that must be repaid is the Canada Student Loan issued to you. The Yukon Department of Education does not distribute a Yukon Student Loan.
- Funding totals are assessed by an examination of what resources you have available to you and what your total costs are for the school year. Essentially, the formula is: Allowable Expenses –Resources = Assistance Amount.
- Funding for Canada Student Loans are as follows:
- Weekly maximum: $210 per week.
- Yearly loan maximum: $7140 for 34 weeks of study.
Types of Non-Repayable Assistance
- The Yukon Financial Assistance provided to the student comes as the Yukon Grant that does not need to be paid back.
- The Yukon Grant provides the following amounts to students:
- Tuition/Fees: $501 per semester
- Books and Supplies: $154 per semester
- Living Expenses: $1001 per semester
- Total Yukon Grant possible for 8 months of study: $3312
- Students who obtain an average of 65% or lower will only receive 60% of this total until their average grade rises above 65%, at which time the full grant can be awarded.
- If you are attending an educational institution outside the Yukon, a travel subsidy per calendar-year is paid.
The following types of non-repayable assistance (bursaries and grants) are assessed automatically through your Canada Student Loan application:
Canada Access Grant for Students with Permanent Disability
