What Can I Do Online?
- Apply online for the Yukon Grant, Canada Student Loan, and other bursaries and scholarships.
- Students can print PDF files of the Canada Student Loan, Yukon Grant, scholarship and bursary application forms.
- Students can also access application requirements for scholarships, bursaries, and other available awards.
What Can SFAIC Do For Me?
Come into our office, and we can:
- Provide you with tips sheets about the Yukon Student Financial Assistance Program.
- Answer questions and provide information regarding Yukon Assistance and Canada Student Loans, loan repayment, bursaries and other funding options.
- Check your application status.
- Call Yukon on your behalf if you are having difficulties with your application.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a Yukon Grant, you must be one of the following:
- A Dependent Student: if you are under 19 years of age on the day your post-secondary classes start, and at least one of your parents has resided in the Yukon continuously for a period of 2 years immediately preceding the start of your post-secondary classes; or, if you are 19 years of age or more, and have resided in the Yukon continuously during the immediately preceding period of 1 year and have previously received Yukon Grant financial assistance as a dependent student.
- An Independent Student: if you have completed 2 years of secondary education in the Yukon school system (Grades 8-12) and have resided in the Yukon continuously for a period of 2 years immediately preceding the start of your post-secondary classes or have previously received financial assistance as a dependent student. Individuals can qualify as an independent student no matter what their age is at the time of application.
- A New Resident Student: if you are less than 19 years of age on the day your post-secondary classes start, you and at least one of your parents has taken up residence in the Yukon, and you are a dependant of that parent at that time. You must have completed 1 year of secondary education in the Yukon school system (Grades 8-12) and start your post-secondary studies before you reach 19 years of age. Your parent(s) must reside in the Territory while you are attending post-secondary studies, and you must complete your post-secondary education before you reach the age of 24.
To apply for a Canada Student Loan, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident (landed immigrant).
- Be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of 60% for Canada Loans) for at least 12 weeks in an approved program and display satisfactory progress.
- Not be receiving Canada Student Loans through another province or territory.
- Not be in default on previous federal or provincial loans and meet credit worthiness criteria.
- Have legitimate financial need.
Spring and Summer Session:
- Contact the Yukon Department of Education and ask for an extension to your study dates.
- You must also list additional costs, such as tuition and books.
