Receiving Your Loan
- A Financial Assistance Statement will be mailed to your home address (also available online). This will indicate the type of funding and amount as well as when and where your money will be sent.
- You will receive a Guarantee Certificate that outlines your responsibilities, terms and conditions when accepting and repaying student loans. This document is valid as long as you are a student. However, if you interrupt your studies for more than six months, a new certificate will be issued when you begin studying again.
- A Guarantee Certificate and a Loan Agreement will be sent to your educational institution if your program is recognized for loans and bursaries, or sent to your mailing address if your program is recognized for loans only. Most U of A students will pick up their Guarantee Certificate and Loan Agreement at the Fees Office on the 3rd floor of the Administration Building.
- Fill out the Guarantee Certificate and Loan Agreement as directed. It must be submitted, before the expiry date on the certificate, to a branch at one of the following financial institutions located in Québec in order for the financial assistance to be deposited in your bank account.
- Desjardins caisse, Bank of Montreal, Laurentian Bank, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada.
- Since you may not be in Québec when the time comes to submit your documents to your financial institution, you can designate someone (family member, friend, etc.) to do so on your behalf. You must sign a power of attorney for that purpose before leaving Québec.
- Shortly after submitting the two documents to your financial institution in Québec, your first installment will be deposited electronically into your bank account.
- If you qualify for a loan and a bursary during the school year, your assistance will be deposited in your bank account each month.
- To receive financial assistance to which you are entitled during your second study period outside of Québec, you must send Aide Financiere aux Etudes a Studying Outside Québec - Proof of Admission or School Attendence form. This form will be mailed to you and is also available online.
- A Confirmation of Financial Resources must be filled out twice—once in September and another time in January to confirm or change the income you declared in your application. This form will be mailed to you and is also available online, and you must fill it out, even if your income has not changed.
