Types of Repayable Assistance

Funding totals are assessed by an examination of what resources you have available to you and what your total costs are for the school year. Essentially, the formula is:
Allowable Expenses –Resources = Assistance Amount.

Students receiving PEI funding assistance will have a return travel allowance. For one academic year, PEI residents attending school in Alberta can receive up to $1200.

Funding for PEI Student Loans are as follows: - Canada Student Loan: $210 max per week - PEI Student Loan:$165 max per week - Total: $375/week - Yearly loan maximum: $12 750 for 34 weeks of study.

PEI’s Living Allowance Rates Amount Per Month

  • Single student living away from home: $776
  • Single parent (excluding dependant costs): $1004
  • Married student and spouse (excluding dependants): $1540
  • Dependants (amount allowed for each): $400

Types of Non-Repayable Assistance

The following types of non-repayable assistance (bursaries and grants) are assessed automatically through your student loan application:

Canada Access Grant for Students with Permanent Disability
Up to $2000

Canada Study Grant for Accommodation of Students with Permanent Disability
Up to $8000

Canada Access Grant for Students from Low-Income Families
50% of Tuition, up to $3000

Canada Study Grant for Full-Time Students with Dependents
Up to $60/week of study

Canada Study Grant for Female Doctoral Students Up to $3000 per year

Canadian Millennium Bursary $2000-$3500 dependent on need.

Millennium PEI Access Grant $1800 in 2nd year

Note: The assistance programs listed above reduce the amount of loan funding issued.
