Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (landed immigrant).
  • Be an Ontario resident (must have lived in Ontario for 12 consecutive months without being a full-time post-secondary student).
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 60% of a full course load) in an approved program of at least 12 weeks in length, and display satisfactory progress.
  • Not be in default on previous federal or provincial loans and meet credit worthiness criteria.
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Note: As an out-of-province student, you must submit a completed Program Information Form with your OSAP application. This is filled out by the Student Access Centre on the 1st floor of the Administration Building.

Application Deadlines:

One-Term Programs (that are 12 to 20 weeks in duration):

  • You must apply within the first 30 days of the study period.
  • All supporting documentation must be received within the first 30 days of the study period.

Two or Three-Term Programs (that are 21 to 52 weeks in duration):

  • All supporting documentation must be received no later than 90 days before the end of your study period.

Spring and Summer Session:

  • If you do not have OSAP loans for fall/winter, you need to apply on-line or pay $10 to apply on paper. You also need to download a ‘Program Information Form’ from the OSAP website. This form must be filled out by the Student Access Centre (1st floor Administration Building) and then mailed back to the Ministry.
  • If you have student loans for the fall / winter terms, all you need to do is download a ‘Program Information Form’, have this filled out by the Access Centre, write “Extension” on the top of the form, and mail it in to OSAP.
  • OSAP will fund full-time students in programs for a minimum of 6 weeks IF AND ONLY IF they were enrolled in full-time studies the previous semester and had OSAP loans during that time.
  • If you were not enrolled in full-time studies with OSAP loans, you must submit a new application and the length of study must be at least 12 weeks in length.

More information can be found on the OSAP Website. It is highly recommended that you look around the website where detailed information is available.
