What Can I Do Online?

  • You can apply online.
  • You can also check your status online.
  • There is a parental contribution calculator on the website for you to use if you want to get an idea of approximately how Nova Scotia Student Assistance will calculate your parents’ contribution to your schooling.
  • You can request to have forms sent out to you.
  • You can also download forms.
  • Several examples of student loan award assessments are also on the site for your reference.

What Can SFAIC Do For Me?

Come into our office, and we can:

  • Provide you with tips sheets about the Nova Scotia Student Assistance Program.
  • Answer questions and provide information regarding NS and Canada Student Loans, loan repayment, bursaries and other funding options.
  • Check your application status.
  • Call Nova Scotia on your behalf if you are having difficulties with your application.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (landed immigrant).
  • Be a Nova Scotia resident (must have lived in NS for 12 consecutive months without being a full-time post-secondary student).
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 60% of a full course load) in an approved program and display satisfactory progress.
  • Not be in default on previous federal or provincial loans and meet credit worthiness criteria.
  • Have legitimate financial need.

Spring and Summer Session

  • To be considered for Spring/Summer funding, you must be enrolled as a full-time student (this means at least 9.5 hours of study per week at the U of A) in 12 out of 15 weeks over the Spring and Summer academic period.
  • To apply for Spring / Summer session, fill out an normal application form on the website with a Spring/Summer Session Confirmation of Program form that is available on the website.
