Types of Repayable Assistance
Funding totals are assessed by an examination of what resources you have available to you and what your total costs are for the school year. Essentially, the formula is:
Allowable Expenses –Resources = Assistance Amount.
Funding for Newfoundland and Labrador Student Loans are as follows:
- Canada Student Loan: $210 max per week
- Newfoundland and Labrador Student Loan:$140 max per week ($70 in Student Loans and $70 in non-repayable grants)
- Total: $350/week
- Yearly loan maximum: $11 900 for 34 weeks of study.
Types of Non-Repayable Assistance
The following types of non-repayable assistance (bursaries and grants) are assessed automatically through your student loan application:
Canada Access Grant for Students with Permanent Disability
Up to $2000
Canada Study Grant for Accommodation of Students with Permanent Disability
Up to $8000
Canada Access Grant for Students from Low-Income Families
50% of Tuition, up to $3000
Canada Study Grant for Full-Time Students with Dependents
Up to $60/week of study
Canada Study Grant for Female Doctoral Students Up to $3000 per year
Canadian Transition Grant
The federal Transition Grant is available to recipients of the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation (CMSF) Millennium Bursary who received their bursary during the 2008–2009 school year. Eligible recipients of the bursary can receive a non-repayable transition grant for up to three additional years of undergraduate study.
Note: The assistance programs listed above reduce the amount of loan funding issued.
