What Can SFAIC Do For Me?

Come into our office, and we can:

  • Provide you with tips sheets about the Newfoundland and Labrador Student Financial Assistance Program.
  • Answer questions and provide information regarding NFL and Canada Student Loans, loan repayment, bursaries, and other funding options.
  • Check your application status.
  • Call Newfoundland and Labrador on your behalf if you are having difficulties with your application.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident (landed immigrant).
  • Be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador (must have lived in NFL for 12 consecutive months without being a full-time post-secondary student).
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of 80% of a full course load for provincial loans and 60% for Canada Loans) for at least 12 weeks in an approved program and display satisfactory progress.
  • Not be in default on previous federal or provincial loans and meet credit worthiness criteria.
  • Have legitimate financial need.

Note: As an out-of-province student, you may submit a Program Cost Form to the Newfoundland Student Financial Services Division. This is filled out by the U of A Student Access Centre on the 1st floor of the Administration Building.

Spring and Summer Session

  • If you are full time in intersession and have received financial assistance for the Fall and Winter terms, you must complete a Supplementary Application which can be downloaded from the website.
  • If you are full time in intersession and have not received financial assistance for the Fall and Winter terms, you must complete an application for assistance (the same as for Fall and Winter applications).
