Appeals
Tier One:
- Any information that has changed or was incorrect on the original application.
- You believe there is an error in your assessment based on the criteria.
- You have extraordinary circumstances that could not be expressed in the original form.
- Submit a written appeal including your Social Insurance Number to the Student Financial Services Division in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Provide copies of documentation to support your claims.
- Parents can appeal their assssed parental contribution by completing a Student/Parent Appeal Form which is signed by both you and your parents. This form is available online.
- Appeals sent by fax, mail, email or drop-off to their office are acceptable.
- Expected processing time is 14 business days.
- Deadline to submit is 8 weeks prior to the end of the period of study which financial assistance being reviewed relates.
Tier Two:
- If dissatisfied with the results of Tier One appeals, submit a written request for further review of your case by the External Appeals Board. You may be present at the meeting either in person or via teleconference.
- External Appeals Board decisions are final and binding on all parties.
- Appeals sent by fax, mail, email or drop-off to their office is acceptable.
- Expected processing time is 30 business days.
- Deadline to submit is 6 weeks prior to the end of the period of study to which financial assistance being reviewed relates.
