Types of Funding
Types of Repayable Funding:
- Funding totals are assessed by an examination of what resources are available to the student and what the total costs are for the school year. Essentially, the formula is: Allowable Expenses –Resources = Assistance Amount.
- Funding for Manitoba Students Loans are as follows:
- Canada Student Loans: $210 max per week.
- Manitoba Student Loans: $140 max per week.
- Total: $350 per week of study.
- Manitoba’s Living Allowance Rates Amount Per Month:
- Single student living away from home - $883
- Single student living at home - $422
- Single parent (not including dependent costs) - $1079
- Married student and spouse (not including dependent costs) - $1701
- Dependants (amount allowed for each dependant) - $493
The following types of non-repayable assistance (bursaries and grants) are assessed automatically through the student loan application:
Canada Access Grant for Students With Permanent Disability
Up to $2000
Canada Study Grant for Accomodation of Students with Permanent Disability
$2000
Canada Access Grant for Students from Low Income Families
$3000
Female Doctoral Students
Up to $3,000 annually, max. three years
Canadian Millennium Bursary $1000-$4500, dependent upon need.
Canada/Manitoba Study Grant for Students with Dependents
$40/week for 1-2 dependents
$60/week for 3+ dependents
Manitoba Bursary Loan Reduction
Amount awarded is based on the total budget for the loan reduction program and the number of eligible students.
Given to students who are ineligible for the Canadian Millenium bursary.
Millennium Manitoba Opportunities Grants for Dependent Students From Low Income Families
Up to 50% of tuition, max. $3000.
Automatically assessed with loan.
Millennium Manitoba Opportunities Grants for Independent Aboriginal Students
Covers tuition, max. $4000 or assessed need, whichever is less.
Automatically assessed with loan.
Prince of Wales/Princess Anne bursary
$200/year, for aboriginal students
Aboriginal Education Awards
Joint awards given by the Manitoba government, federal government and the Business Council of Manitoba.
$3000/year for University students
$1500 for College students
This award is for students of aboriginal ancestry.
ACCESS Programs in Manitoba Bursaries
Designed to meet all financial need of students.
Under-represented groups. I.e. Aboriginals, northerners, residents of the inner city, those with disabilities, women, single parents, immigrants and refugees.
Note: The assistance programs listed above reduce the amount of loan funding issued.
