Science Team Facilitators
Corbett Artym
Hey everybody! The name's Corbett. I'm currently finished all my coursework for my BSc majoring in Computing Science and Mathematics. Right now I'm working on projects in the Technology in Education branch of Educational Psychology. I hope to go on to start my Masters of Education in September. This is my third year doing Orientation (first as a TF). You may recognize me from the Panel 2010 or the Computers and Libraries 2011 presentations. These presentations were a lot of fun and I look forward to whatever Orientation 2012 has in store for us!
Mathieos Belayneh
Hey you! Yea YOU, the university student in the front, who is most likely wearing clothing, that’s sitting in front of a computer. How do I know almost everything about you, you ask? Why magic of course, the magic of Orientation! So you want in on the magic you say? Well that’s easy; all you gotta do is become a volunteer for Orientation!!
-The Man behind the magic
A third year Science TF who should be called Mathew or Matt instead of Mathieos (to make your life easier) that is stoked for Orientation 2012!
Darby Brox

Newbie Darby speaking -> So ummm where’s this building called SAB? And are classes hard in universtiy? Like do prof’s actually not care about you cause you’re just a number? What happens if I need help and don’t get it?
Where do I go if I want to join a club? Can you tell me where the best place to study is? Im so new to all of this and im soooo scared! AHHHH!
TF Darby speaking -> If you could answer any one of those questions you should automatically sign up to volunteer for Orientation. If you couldn’t answer any of those questions you should still sign up to volunteer for Orientation! It’ll be one of the best times of your life! It’s where you can have fun, meet new people and share your knowledge!
AND OH!
The name’s Brox….Darby Brox.
Jason Croteau Walker
Oh hey! Nice to meet you. My name's Jason and well... I'm a Hufflepuff! I am also a TF for the Faculty of Science for Orientation 2012! This will be my third year with Orientation and my second year as a TF. Oh boy, I just cannot wait for September to come around because we're gonna HUFF and we're gonna PUFF and we're gonna blow your socks off with what I know is going to be a spectacular 4 days of awesome! In the mean time, here are some interesting things you may like to know about this proud Hufflepuff:
1) Year 4 - Biochemistry
2) I don't like coffee
3) 13 is my lucky number
4) I tend to frequent the World of Warcraft
5) You may call me Crouton (if you so choose)
6) I know the secret to Beatboxing
That's all for now. See you at Orientation 2012!
Sherwin Kwong
Oh hey there. My name is Sherwin and I’m one of the Science Team Facilitators! I’m in my third year with a major in Biology and a minor in German (Yes, I know). I’m also a big fan of sharks in space, Earl Grey tea, cephalopods (especially octopi), laughing at myself, rapping about mammals, and Cajun Chicken Cheddar sandwiches. I’m super stoked for Orientation because it’s going to be totes awes and I can’t wait to see all of your bright, volunteer-y faces. It’s going to be a good one this year! Loltxtit.
Chelsey Pitchko
Hey there!! My name is Chelsey and I am a Science TF for Orientation 2012!!!! Due to there never being enough time to write out full paragraphs in class I have gotten into the point form habit so here it goes:
-majoring in procrastination....nah just kidding. I’ll tell y’all my actual major later though
-love cupcakes and nutella/peanut butter sandwiches
-originally from Calgary but I am an Oilers fan anyways
-New Orleans Saints = BEST TEAM EVER!!
-I have a collection of Mickey Mouse ears from Disneyland/Disneyworld (one for every trip there)
-due to my being from Calgary I enjoy country music, own 3 cowboy hats/a pair of cowboy boots, and say “y’all” a lot
FUN FACT: According to legend, there is a Superman in every episode of Seinfeld.
Scott Riddle

It isn't easy being green. It's even harder being a TF. However, this mystically charming character seems to greatly enjoy his position, while somehow causing a commotion in the ocean, yelling chants on campus and breaking hearts along the way. He is often seen encouraging narwhal protection, talking the talk, walking the walk, and balling so hard.
Larissa Shapka
Heyy fellow science nerds! (alright … AND all you normal Homo sapiens out there too!). My name is Larissa Shapka and I’m a 2nd year Biological Sciences student. As a Science TF, I’ll be sequencing the DNA required for survival of the U of A fittest (extracted from our Orientation Leader strains), and cloning these building blocks of university success along with lots of Science cheers to share with all you Orientation delegates. In my other life, I also work as a tour guide, so I can advise you against hunting for the University’s 2000-year old Egyptian mummy in the sub-basement of the Biological Sciences building (you’ll get lost looking - it’s looong gone).
Ola Szopiak
Hey everyone, or should I say hola everyone (cheesy joke, yah I went there). My name is Ola and I’m one of the Science TF’s for Orientation 2012! I’m really excited to be part of this year’s Orientation and I hope that you are too! Since Orientation is full of cheering I decided to write a cheer.
“Hey TF!” “Hey what?” “Introduce yourself!” “No Way!” “Introduce yourself!” “Ok…
My name is Ola, la-di-da, when I hear a beat I move my feet, when you bump/set I’ll hit over the net, when I hear that “Paradise” song I sing along, when I get a good laugh it’s on Phil Dunphy’s behalf, when Sunday arrives The Walking Dead fills my eyes, when I’m at a hockey game I’m rocking Eberle’s name.
Now you know a little more about me, so turn around and touch the ground, cause Orientation is going to be cray!””
Thanh Tang
Dear student,
I'm sorry if you haven't realized, but your Hogwarts letter is not coming. Nonetheless, welcome to the University of Alberta! My name is Thanh Tang and, once again, I am one of the Prefects for the House of Science also known as a Science Team Facilitator. I am a 3rd year Kinesiology Major from Victoria, BC, and I am really excited to be involved with the program for a 3rd straight year! I look forward to seeing all the new faces and volunteers at this year's Orientation!
Yours sincerely,
Thanh Tang
