Speaker of Students' Council

Rory Tighe

The Speaker is the presiding officer of all meetings of Students' Council. They are appointed annually by, and report directly to, Students' Council. The Speaker facilitates discussion and debate, makes rulings on parliamentary procedure, and helps to facilitate Students' Council in fulfilling its legislative mandate. The Speaker is a non-voting member of Students' Council.

Rory Tighe is in his final year of a Bachelor of Arts (Hon) majoring in Economics. Last year he served as President of the Students’ Union, after serving a year as Vice President (Student Life). Rory’s involvement into student politics began in Lister Centre where he lived for his first three years of University. In his free time Rory enjoys: traveling, participating in campus recreation teams, and spending time with his friends and family.
