Non-Elected Governance & Advocacy Positions

The External Policy and Information Officer is a research, record keeping and strategy position within the SU’s Advocacy Department, and together with other members of the department, supports the government relations, media relations and campus communications initiatives of the Executive Committee.

The University Policy and Information Officer has the same role as that of the External Policy and Information Officer, but with the focus on supporting the Executive Committee’s relations and communications initiatives with the University.

The Chief Returning Officer reports to Students’ Council and oversees all electoral logistics of the Students’ Union. Must be familiar with election processes and bylaws. Excellent project management skills are required to succeed in this position.

The Speaker of Students’ Council is the presiding officer of Students’ Council. The Speaker facilitates debate, makes rulings on procedure, and helps Council fulfill its mandate. The Speaker should be familiar with Robert’s Rules of Order and be available on Council nights (Tuesday) from 5:30 pm.

The Student Governance Officer provides assistance with the development and facilitation of Discover Governance projects and services including impartial advice, professional development, and administrative support to the undergraduate students serving as University and Students’ Union representatives. The SGO reports to the Discover Governance Manager.
