To enhance your university experience, the Students' Union provides a myriad of services which are maintained through the Dedicated Fees portion of your Student Fees. Dedicated fees are those created by a referendum stating a specific use for the funds collected.
Some of these fees permit students to 'opt-out' of them if the student is either philosophically opposed to these fees or cannot afford them. Students who choose to opt out must complete an opt-out form on this webpage each term, and for each individual fee, during the opt-out period for that particular fee.
If you choose to opt-out of one or more of the fees listed on this page, you must still pay the full amount of your fees by the university's fee payment deadline. After the opt-out deadline passes and your request is verified by the Registrars' Office, your refund will be deposited into your ONEcard account.
Once you have opted-out of a fee and the opt-out deadline passes, there is no method to opt back in for that term. By opting out of a fee, you will likely lose access to the services provided under the fee (this can be confirmed through the fee's receiving organization).
Because these fees are only paid by undergraduate students, refunds are only provided to undergraduate students. Graduate students are not eligible to opt-out.
Once the opt-out deadline for a fee has passed, no further opt-outs of the fee are permitted for that term. The opt-out period for all Dedicated Fee Units in Fall 2023 is Sept 1-30, 2023. Opt-outs for Winter 2024 will be open January 1-31, 2024. The opt-out deadline for Spring 2024 will be May 31. The opt-out deadline for Summer 2024 will be July 31.
Please note that the period in which you can change your health and dental coverage is different from the Dedicated Fee Units and is found on the StudentCare website.
Opt-outs will be processed within a month following the opt-out deadline, and the funds will be deposited into the students' ONEcard accounts. Please contact the ONEcard Office for any questions pertaining to your ONEcard account.

Please note that the DFUs for Residence Associations, and The Landing are not collected during the Spring and Summer terms, and are therefore unavailable for opt-out during these terms.

I opted out by accident. What do I do?
If you mistakenly opted out of a fee we manage that you didn't mean to opt out of, please email dedicatedfees@su.ualberta.ca before the opt-out deadline and we will let you know what options are available.
Health & Dental Plan
